Community Engagement Forum a Success.

Recent changes to Province of Saskatchewan Education Act legislation have resulted in the elimination of the requirement of Boards of Education to hold an annual meeting of electors.

The Regina Board of Education, however, believed that it was important to continue to provide its communities with opportunities to learn about and discuss public education issues that are important to them.  That’s why on January 30th , the Board hosted a Community Engagement Forum at  École Harbour Landing School.

This first-time ever event welcomed more than 100 participants, more than 50 of whom were parents, SCC members and other stakeholders from the community. The event featured brief greetings from Adam Hicks, Vice-Chairperson of the Board and Director of Education, Greg Enion. Allparticipants then engaged in small group discussions on a number of education issues previously identified by the SCCs, the Board , and administration. Participants were also free to bring up their own areas of concern that were shared with the trustees and administration, as well as school-based administration and staff that participated in the discussions.

The successful event also saw a brief demonstration by a Regina group that presented a petition that the Board hold a Special Meeting. The group petitioning for a special meeting did not stay at the Engagement Forum to participate in the discussions, but left before the group discussions began.

The Board received this petition discuss it at its February 13th Board meeting. The requested Special Meeting of the Electors will be held at the Division Office on February 28th at 7 p.m.
