School Boundary Changes for 2016

School Boundary Changes for 2016

Regina is growing, and it is a very exciting time for Regina Public schools as neighbourhoods are expanding and new communities are popping up.

The school division has reviewed the enrolment trends and program needs and are looking towards the future of public education in Regina. Details of our trends analysis can be found in our Accommodation Review, published in September 2015:

This growth gives the school division the rare opportunity to realign school attendance areas—also known as school boundaries—to meet the future enrolment needs of families and the school division, as well as to address distance and travel time issues that may be created by growing and new communities. These changes to the attendance areas will also address any current or future capacity issues in existing schools and create opportunities to add or change programs and make them closer to students’ homes.

What you need to know about 2016 boundary changes

  • Little or no impact for current students or staff
  • Changes apply to new students only, effective 2016/17
  • Transportation Services will continue to be provided according to existing procedures
  • Siblings of current students may be permitted to attend the same schools as their brothers and sisters, exceptions may be provided for their transportation services.

It is very important to keep you informed and there is more realignment ahead for the 2017-18 school year. Later this month, the Board of Education and I will announce changes for when our three new schools will open, as well as information about the naming of these new schools. We are very excited about these changes, and we will keep you well informed of any changes that may be of interest to your family or community.

If you have any questions the school attendance area realignment, please don’t hesitate to ask your school principal, or email
