EAL students at neighborhood schools

EAL students at neighborhood schools

In September, 2012, elementary school EAL students (Kindergarten to Grade 8) who currently attend one of 13 sector schools will attend school and receive teaching and learning support in their neighborhood school. Transportation for these students to elementary schools beyond their neighborhood school catchment area will no longer be available. It is important to note that teachers and staff who offered EAL support at sector schools will be reallocated to provide teaching and learning supports to elementary school EAL learners as needed and appropriate.

Over the next few months, Regina Public Schools will be working with various stakeholder groups at both the division and school level as well as with various partners and the community to ensure smooth and appropriate transition plans for schools, staff, students, and parents/guardians. Further information will be provided.

Note that for the next school year, delivery of teaching and learning supports for high school EAL students (Grades 9 to 12) and Adult Campus students will not change.

More detail will follow as the transition and provision of EAL teaching and learning supports to a model of neighborhood school delivery unfolds.
